POLICE NAB 2 MORE AFTER RAIDS ON HELLS
Police have arrested two men described as Hells Angels sympathizers,
bringing to 42 the number of people in custody after a massive police
sweep Thursday.
One man was arrested at his home on Michaud St. in Laval yesterday
afternoon. Another man turned himself in to Montreal police at the
South Operational Centre on Guy St. late Thursday.
More than 400 officers took part in the raids, which targeted members
of the Hells Angels South chapter, based in St. Basile le Grand. That
chapter took control of Montreal's illicit drug trade after members of
the Hells Angels' Nomads chapter were jailed during Operation
Springtime 2001. Police had been investigating the South chapter
since, culminating with the raids.
Police are still looking for 21 people, including 10 bikers.
A mixed squad of officers from various police departments executed 28
warrants in 33 municipalities in Greater Montreal on Thursday. Police
seized a total of $356,810 in cash, 2.5 kilograms of cocaine, 30
kilograms of cannabis, one .38-calibre firearm and one .25-calibre
handgun.
Investigators say anyone with information is urged to telephone
1-800-659-4264 (GANG).
