LOCAL MOTORCYCLE CLUB TO RAISE MONEY FOR D.A.R.E. CHAPTER

ZANESVILLE -- Visitors to the Colony Square Mall this weekend will not only
get to see a variety of motorcycles, but will also have the chance to
donate money to a good cause.

The Y2 Chapter of the Gold Wings Road Riders Association, as well as
chapters from Newark and Coshocton, set up a display of between 10 and 20
motorcycles in the concourse of the mall Friday. Visitors can vote for
their favorite motorcycle by placing dollars in the bucket beside each
motorcycle through Sunday. All the money raised from the event will benefit
the local Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program.

Wayne Hughes, chapter president of the motorcycle association, said the
club raises money for three charities throughout the year, including the
county home, the Make a Wish Foundation and D.A.R.E.

"We're a community-minded group, so we try to help out," Hughes said.

Hughes said winners in four categories will be announced at 4 p.m. Sunday.
The winners will receive trophies.

"There's a mall manager's pick, the popular vote, a trophy for the biggest
chapter other than ours and the kids' vote," Hughes said.

Sgt. Dan Marks, a D.A.R.E. officer with the Muskingum County Sheriff's
Office, said the county D.A.R.E. officers appreciate the association's efforts.

"They've been with us since day one when we started the program in 1997,"
Marks said. "It's great to have people in the community that are willing to
help us out with the program."

Marks said he, Sheriff's Deputy Bill Hoops and the Zanesville City Police
Department D.A.R.E. officer will be at the mall at various times throughout
the weekend. Hoops' Jeep, which is painted with the D.A.R.E. logo, will
also be at the mall. Marks said Hoops is borrowing a friend's
Harley-Davidson Police Package motorcycle to display at the mall, as well.

Kevin Pinson, Colony Square Mall marketing coordinator, said he thinks the
show is a great idea.

"These are the Cadillacs of motorcycles, they're designed for long road
trips so they have sidecars and trailers," Pinson said. "They're
sharp-looking motorcycles and we always have the motorcycle enthusiasts
coming out."
