FIRE IN N.W. HOME REVEALS MARIJUANA STASH
Calgary firefighters stumbled upon a marijuana grow operation when
they arrived at 207 Arbour Butte Rd. N.W. to put out a fire Saturday.
The fire was in the basement and quickly extinguished. It was believed
to have been caused by a faulty electrical system used in the grow
operation.
As many as 300 marijuana plants were found in the residence, although
no one was home at the time.
Police have predicted that 2004 will be another record year for pot
seizures and have been busy busting nearly five residential grow
operations a week. In 2003, police seized more than $50 million of
illegally grown dope.
