DRUG DOGS WON'T BE SNIFFING SCHOOL LOCKERS
SURREY - The school board has decided not to proceed with a proposal to use
drug-sniffing dogs to conduct random checks of school lockers. At a board
meeting this week, chairman Shawn Wilson said Surrey RCMP doesn't have the
resources to execute search warrants for every suspicious locker. The board
has also previously looked at using a private security firm's dogs, but that
would have cost at least $50,000 annually, he said. School board spokesman
Doug Strachan noted school administrators still have the right to search
lockers because they are school property.
