D.A.R.E. PROGRAM SEEKS SPONSORS
SALEM - The Salem Police Department is looking for sponsors to help in
its fight against drugs, alcohol, tobacco and violence in students'
lives.
The Drug Abuse Resistance and Education program is offered to every
public and private school in Salem.
The program is presented to 2,000 fifth-graders every year, Salem
police Lt. Dan Cary said.
The 45-minute presentations are given once a week for 10
weeks.
The police department needs donations or sponsors for DARE supplies
such as workbooks, bumper stickers, T-shirts, pencils and name cards.
"Our primary need is for DARE supplies and materials," Cary
said.
The Salem Police Department and the Salem-Keizer School District pay
for the DARE officers.
Salem police have received about $11,300 in donations. Cary said that
an additional $4,805 is needed.
