CANADA: NOTE TO READERS

Several articles by medical reporter Brad Evenson that have appeared
in the National Post contained fabricated names and quotes, the
newspaper has discovered.

Following an internal investigation into the extent of the
fabrications, nine articles by Mr. Evenson, dating to December, 2002,
have been identified as containing quotes that were either the result
of other conversations, Internet exchanges or readings, but they were
not made by the people cited.

There is no evidence that any of the fabrications contained medical
information, nor were the names or comments of any members of the
medical profession falsified.

Matthew Fraser, Editor-in-Chief of the National Post, said the
newspaper acted immediately when senior editors became aware of
alleged fabrications. Since then, Mr. Evenson's articles have not
appeared in the paper.

"The Post takes this seriously and it is not in any way indicative of
the quality of reporting and editing at the newspaper," Mr. Fraser
said.
