CITY COUNCILLOR WANTS PROPERTY OWNERS TO INSPECT FOR MARIJUANA OPERATIONS

RICHMOND - Coun. Bill McNulty wants property owners to make sure they
don't have marijuana growing operations in their rental homes.

"Owners need to know what their duties are, and that includes knowing
what's going on in their properties," said McNulty.

The Richmond councillor said he will ask civic staff to come up with a
bylaw requiring property owners to conduct regular inspections inside
and out.

"Hopefully, it will reduce the likelihood of a grow op taking place
because they are taking place everywhere, including apartment blocks,"
said McNulty.

According to Richmond RCMP, there could be as many as 600 growing
operations in the city. Richmond now charges a fee to homeowners for
police and fire services once a growing operation is shut down.
