EX-AIDE'S BAIL REVOKED AFTER THIRD ARREST

Suspended ministerial assistant Marshall Smith, charged with trafficking in
crystal methamphetamine after a July 1 arrest, was arrested for the second
time since then after a 4 a.m. traffic stop Sunday in downtown Victoria.

Smith's bail was revoked when he appeared in Victoria provincial court. He
will remain in custody until he is back in court Thursday.

In the latest incident, Smith was pulled over near the intersection of
Douglas and Bay streets on a "routine vehicle stop," Victoria police Const.
Rick Anthony said Tuesday at the department's weekly media briefing. Smith,
31, was not found with drugs, but was arrested for breaching previous
conditions imposed by the court.

Smith was breaking his curfew, did not have a copy of his court orders and
was in possession of a cellphone, all in violation of court direction,
Anthony said.

"He was arrested and lodged in our cells. He appeared via tele-bail to a
(justice of the peace), and was remanded."

Smith, who served for a time as an assistant to Gulzar Cheema, minister of
state for immigration and multiculturalism, was first arrested near Fisgard
and Government streets after a two plainclothes officers spotted a man
approach a car that had pulled over. Police said a quantity of crystal
methamphetamine and some money were found after the car was stopped a short
distance away.

A second man, 20-year-old Craig Powell, was charged with possession of
crystal methamphetamine.

Smith's second arrest was July 15 when a car was stopped near the Johnson
Street Bridge for alleged traffic violations. He was subsequently charged
with possession of crystal methamphetamine and cocaine for the purpose of
trafficking and three counts of breach of recognizance.
