VANCOUVER MAY REVOKE BUSINESS LICENCE OF CAFE OWNER WHO SOLD MARIJUANA
The owner of a Vancouver cafe that sells marijuana over the counter will
appear at a hearing where her city-issued business licence may be revoked.
Barb Windsor, Vancouver's deputy chief licensing inspector, said yesterday a
panel of three city councillors will hear evidence on Sept. 15 relating to
the operation of the Da Kine Smoke & Beverage Shop, before making a
recommendation to city council.
"The panel will determine if any action should be taken against the business
licence," she said. "If the decision by council is to revoke the licence,
[the proprietor] could be told to close immediately, or be given a time
line."
On Wednesday, owner Carol Gwilt admitted to the media that her shop has been
selling marijuana since opening four months ago, although no drugs are
displayed. Ms. Gwilt did not return calls for comment yesterday.
Constable Sarah Bloor of Vancouver Police said: "If we can work with the
city to have their licence pulled, we'll do that."
