DRUG-DETOX CENTRE COMING TO SURREY
Those concerned with rising drug woes in Whalley got good news
yesterday -- a large detox centre is coming to Surrey Memorial Hospital.
"This is a very positive thing for Surrey," Mayor Doug McCallum said
after council gave preliminary approval to a rezoning proposal that
will permit 30 beds.
Unlike privately run drug-and-alcohol recovery houses, this will be a
one-of-a-kind, medically supervised detox facility. Six beds for youth
will be included.
The Surrey hospital program has been transferred from Maple Cottage in
New Westminster and will be housed in a new, 28,000-square-foot wing
at 13718-94A Ave.
