GRANDMOTHER GETS CONDITIONAL SENTENCE FOR SELLING POT TO TEENS
NANAIMO -- A 65-year-old woman who was selling marijuana to Nanaimo
teenagers was spared jail only on account of her health, a provincial
court judge said Tuesday.
Mary Cunningham, who uses a wheelchair, entered a guilty plea to
possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
before Judge Eldon Iverson. Iverson levied a six-month conditional
sentence.
The court heard that the grandmother of six, who came to Canada from
Belgium in 1956, was selling the pot to meet expenses, as well as to
alleviate her loneliness.
