CITY COUNCIL LIMITS POT DISPENSARIES
The City Council has voted to limit the number of medical marijuana
dispensaries within Berkeley's borders to the three known to exist.
The council voted 7 -1 with one abstention Tuesday to approve
Councilwoman Linda Maio's proposal, which also prohibits new
dispensaries from locating within 1,000 feet of a public school.
Maio introduced the ordinance because she feared an influx of centers
after Oakland, which had a dozen dispensaries, limited the number to
four earlier this year.
Medical marijuana advocates said the limit is unnecessary.
