COUNCIL SEEKS GROW-OP ADVICE
A proposal for the city to find ways to deal with marijuana grow
operations in Calgary has been sent to the police commission for
consideration.
Ald. Diane Colley-Urquhart wants the city to address the increasing
number of grow ops in residential areas.
"This is not a police problem," Colley-Urquhart said, "this is a
community problem."
Her council colleagues, however, said the city has little control over
grow operations, since the federal government makes the laws regarding
illegal drugs.
Ald. Ric McIver said the police commission should be asked to give
ideas to council on how to deal with the problem. "Let's start with
our in-house experts," he said.
