POLICE LAY 57 CHARGES AFTER SIX-MONTH INVESTIGATION
Members of the Regina Police Service and RCMP integrated drug unit
have charged seven Regina residents and a Calgary man with a total of
57 drug, conspiracy and organized-crime-related charges as a result of
a six-month investigation.
Wednesday afternoon members of the drug unit with the assistance of
the city police SWAT and RCMP ERT teams, integrated proceeds of crime,
canine and street crimes teams executed three search warrants in the
city, while a fourth search warrant was executed in Calgary.
Two downtown locations were searched in Regina along with a residence
in the south end of the city. As a result of the searches police
recovered a loaded handgun and other weapons, as well as a small
quantity of drugs including cocaine, ecstasy and methamphetamines.
Eight of the accused appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Thursday.
A 24-year-old woman was released on her own recognisance and is
scheduled to make her next appearance Nov. 25, while the other seven
co-accused were remanded in custody until today. The ninth person was
to make their first appearance today.
The investigation is ongoing. No further details are being released at
this time.
