YET ANOTHER DOPEY MARIJUANA STORY

If the idea of a picture-perfect, architecturally homogeneous, gated
community doesn't already give you the willies, just imagine the one
proposed by an enterprising developer in Chilliwack, B.C. He would
have prospective buyers sign an agreement to forfeit their home if it
was ever used to grow marijuana.

Aside from being of questionable legal standing, it is hard to believe
that living in a grow-op free environment is a priority for most
new-home buyers. Nor is it likely that anyone intent upon growing pot
in their basement (and risking jail in the process) would feel bound
by a real estate contract forbidding him or her to do so.

Besides, given the latest poll showing marijuana use among Canadians
has doubled in the past decade, to 14 per cent, there's a good chance
more than a few home buyers would find it mighty convenient living
next-door to a fresh source of supply.
