MOTHER AND SON CHARGED AFTER POT LAB CAUSES FIRE
KITCHENER -- A 53-year-old woman and her son face drug charges after a
marijuana lab exploded in their kitchen and set the stove on fire.
The 24-year-old son received minor burns to his hand and hair, but he
did not need medical attention after Wednesday night's fire.
The pair appeared briefly in court Thursday charged with possession of
a controlled substance and production of a controlled substance.
Police found about nine kg of marijuana leaves in the unit, said Staff
Sgt. Ray Massicotte of the Waterloo regional police drug squad.
Massicotte said marijuana leaves were being cooked using butane or
isopropyl alcohol to make oil.
