POLICE BUST $2.4M POT 'FACTORY'
Police raided one of the biggest marijuana grow operations ever found in
the city on Monday.
The Southern Alberta Marijuana Investigative Team -- made up of city police
and RCMP members -- seized nearly 2,000 plants worth an estimated $2.4
million from a home in the 100 block of West Springs Pl. S.W.
Investigators did not return phone calls to comment on what a police news
release called a "marijuana factory" inside the home.
The plants were rooted in dirt and were found in three stages of growth.
Having plants in different stages allows operators to continuously harvest
some marijuana instead of waiting for the entire crop to mature.
The largest single-home operation uncovered to date in Calgary was a
$3-million grow op in the city's northwest last December.
That operation, in a home on Schiller Crescent N.W, contained about 2,100
plants.
