POT BUST DOESN'T ADD UP

Editor:

I don't know how the RCMP estimate the value of cannabis. It is
obvious from your article ("Police seize 5,000 marijuana plants," Nov.
28) that the cannabis plants seized were grown indoors -- they would
have to be because of the late date.

It would be prudent of you to find out how many lights were used in
the cultivation of the crop (5,566 plants), because each 1,000-watt
light will only produce approximately one pound of cannabis bud. Even
using Health Canada MMAR standards of 30 grams per plant, that works
out to 166980 grams in total. A standard joint is .5 gram, sometimes
.25 gram.

Those equivalents work out to 333,960 or 667,920 joints; not over two
million. People that smoke pot don't smoke 'paper'; and only Health
Canada's PPS cannabis ensures people smoke stems.

Tell the RCMP to quit fear mongering.
