CITY LOBBIES FOR STIFFER PENALTIES
PORT COQUITLAM - The City of Port Coquitlam wants to see the federal
government take a tougher stance on marijuana growing operations.
Council voted unanimously to forward a resolution to the Federation of
Canadian Municipalities to lobby Justice Minister and Attorney-General
Irwin Cotler to increase the minimum significant fines and/or minimum jail
time for convicted persons.
The resolution cited community risks such as fires, home invasions, costs
to local governments and organized crime.
