POLICE FACE BOOBY TRAPS, REINFORCED DOORS WHEN THEY RAID HOME WITH POT FARM
COQUITLAM - A heavily fortified and booby-trapped Coquitlam home posed a
new set of problems for the RCMP's Marijuana Enforcement Team.
On Thursday, police were called to a home in the 1000 block of Spar Drive
to investigate a reported break-in. While securing the residence, they
found a marijuana growing operation. The MET was called and a search
warrant was executed.
The doors were heavily fortified and several booby traps were found. The
front and rear doors were reinforced with heavy metal doors installed
behind the main doors. The main floor windows were booby trapped with
electrical wires hooked up to steel bars. Anyone touching the bars would
have received a severe shock.
Police also found two-by-fours with spikes planted throughout the backyard.
Fortunately, no police officers were injured in what was the first time the
MET had to deal with a home that was so heavily fortified and booby trapped.
A total of 1,212 plants were seized. An electrical bypass was also
discovered. No arrests have been made.
