MORE CHARGES POSSIBLE IN PRISON POT BUST

Charges against other individuals may be pending after a 32-year-old woman
was arrested as she attempted to bring a "large quantity" of marijuana into
the Bowden Institution last week, police said Sunday.

"We are not done yet," said Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Mark Brown.

"There are still people to be spoken to. The investigation is continuing."

The woman was found in possession of drugs as she arrived at the prison for
work Friday morning, said Brown.

"She was carrying it in a container," said Brown.

The woman is not a corrections officer, but is employed with the Corps of
Commissionaires, which supervises construction and other work in the
prison, 120 kilometres north of Calgary.

Police are not saying how much marijuana was seized, only that it was a
"large quality."

Brown said the drugs were being brought in to be used by inmates at the
medium security prison, home to 500 prisoners.

The woman was arrested after prison staff received information, Brown said.

"They were looking into the possibility of someone bringing drugs in," he said.

The woman has been released by a justice of the peace and is scheduled to
appear in Red Deer provincial court on May 6.

Olds resident Angela Lynn Griffiths faces a charge of possession of a
controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Reached at her Olds home Sunday, Griffiths said she plans to fight the
charge, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.

She declined to comment further, referring the matter to her lawyer.
