OFFICIALS TO VISIT SAFE-INJECTION SITES IN EUROPE
Victoria Mayor Alan Lowe is joining a delegation to Switzerland and Germany
next month to visit safe drug injection sites. Lowe, Vancouver Island
Health Authority CEO Howard Waldner and chief regional medical health
officer Richard Stanwick will visit Berne and Frankfurt on a May 8-13 trip.
Lowe said the group hopes to meet with local authorities, including police,
about their experiences with the injection sites. Victoria is considering
such a site to deal with illegal drug users in the downtown area. Vancouver
is currently the only city in Canada with such a facility.
