LET'S FOCUS ON DANGERS OF DRIVING AND TAKING DRUGS
It might seem obvious to all but a few pro-pot fanatics. But a study has
shown that taking marijuana and driving a vehicle can be a deadly combination.
The New Zealand study of more than 1,000 drivers found that habitual
cannabis users -- those who smoked it at least once a week -- were nearly
10 times more likely to have a serious car crash.
But the University of Auckland researchers, whose paper was published in
the British journal Addiction, said they did not know why this was the case.
Certainly, it appeared unlikely that the increased crash risk was due to
brain damage from the drug.
Nevertheless, Professor Robert West, editor of Addiction, said the study
showed that public information campaigns about pot use would be a good idea.
So, of course, would any well-researched material that warns motorists
about the dangers of taking drugs.
