VIOLENT DRUG RAID SPURS NEW CHARGES

Alleged Shooter's Parents, Girlfriend Arrested

The parents and girlfriend of a man accused of shooting two Winnipeg
police officers last week were arrested Thursday and charged with
possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, sources close to
the family say.

Monty Anderson, 54, and his wife Bonnie Anderson, 55, whose son,
Daniell, 21, allegedly shot police officers during a drug raid Dec. 7,
were taken into custody about 5:45 p.m. at the Elmwood bungalow where
Monty Anderson's daughter lives, the sources said.

Six police officers reportedly came to the residence and took the
couple into custody. Sources said police had found about 3.15
kilograms of marijuana at the Jubilee Avenue house where the drug raid
took place last week.

Asked later if the Andersons were surprised they were arrested,
Monty's daughter, who did not want her name used, said: "Of course
they were."

Almost an hour later, police arrested Daniell Anderson's girlfriend,
Ashley Cochrane, 20, at the same Elmwood home. Sources said Cochrane
had been at a Christmas party at Lord Roberts School.

A police spokesman later confirmed Monty and Bonnie Anderson were at
police headquarters. He could not confirm whether police had also
brought Cochrane there.

The spokesman did not say why the Andersons were speaking to police.
The Andersons returned to the Elmwood house about 9 p.m. Thursday.

The Anderson couple declined to answer questions, though Monty
Anderson said: "It's been a rough day."

Daniell Anderson was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly
shot and wounded two police officers who were executing a search
warrant. A third officer also suffered a gunshot wound, though it is
believed he was shot by a fellow officer during the incident.

Daniell Anderson was also injured in the raid, losing three fingers
and suffering a gunshot wound to his elbow.
