PHARMACISTS FACE DEADLINE FOR SELLING, STORING COLD MEDICINES

SCOTTSBURG, Ind. -- Pharmacist Ron West peers from behind a drugstore
counter at an aisle filled with cold and allergy medicines.

Although a new state law restricting the sale of many of those medicines
takes effect next Friday, West and his co-owner at Hancock's Drug Store
near downtown Scottsburg still have not made the big decision:

Should they put all medicines containing pseudoephedrine behind a counter?
Should they keep them in a locked case?

Or should they adjust their surveillance system to capture images of
customers in the aisle at least every 10 seconds, pictures or video they
must save for three days so they can show police?

"We really haven't decided what we're going to do," West said. "When you
start pulling these products off the shelf, you wipe out a whole section of
the store."

It's a dilemma that pharmacies across Indiana are facing
