HAMILTON HOSTS HEMP HOOPLA
HAMILTON - It's BYOB.
Bring your own bong, that is.
A celebration in Hamilton today -- Canabian Day -- will mark the first
anniversary of the city's first marijuana cafe, with organizers handing out
free cannabis to anyone with a bong.
Organizers are planning to hand out about 300 one-gram joints, loose
marijuana for at least 100 bongs, and pre-packaged marijuana for medicinal use.
Chris Goodwin, the owner of Up in Smoke, says the event is expected to draw
as many as 1,000 people.
But the hemp hoopla will be done under the watchful eye of police, who have
promised a swift response if any crimes are committed.
"We will not allow any criminal activity," said Hamilton police Insp. Paul
Morrison. "If someone is in violation of a federal or provincial statute,
we're going to enforce that."
