U.S. ATTORNEY PUTS DIBS ON B.C. TUNNEL PROPERTY

The U.S. Attorney's Office moved last week to prevent a change in ownership
of a British Columbia property that contains the Canadian end of a
marijuana-smuggling tunnel.

The property at 26717 Zero Ave. in Langley contains a hut housing one end
of the tunnel, which surfaces 360 feet away inside a U.S. home at 151 E.
Boundary Road, Lynden. The government is already seeking forfeiture of the
Lynden property.

The U.S. Attorney's Office contends that the tunnel was used to smuggle
several marijuana loads into the United States before police shut it down
in July. Five people were arrested. While several drug tunnels have been
discovered on the southern border with Mexico, this is the first tunnel
discovered along the Canadian border.
