MORE TRUCKS CARRYING POT ACROSS BORDER
Last year: Police said a growing number of commercial trucks -- many
linked to Indo-Canadian crime groups -- were being used to illegally
transport marijuana south of the border.
This year: An increasing number of trucks are suspected of being
involved in cross-border drug shipments.
Inspector Paul Nadeau, of the RCMP's Vancouver drug section, said the
quantity of pot in each shipment has also gone up.
He said Indo-Canadian gangs are specializing in the transport of
marijuana and are contracting the service to other criminal
organizations.
Last February, a 34-year-old trucker named Harpreet Singh Khurmee, 34,
was shot to death outside the Delta company where he was employed.
Khurmee had driven for a number of Lower Mainland trucking companies,
including one linked to at least one murder and two other shootings.
