MOTHER HEARS SHOCKING DETAILS OF TEEN'S DEATH FROM ECSTASY
VALLEYFIELD, Que. - Dawn Reilly sat in a courtroom here yesterday
looking more and more frail as the circumstances behind her
13-year-old daughter's death spilled out.
The shocking details emerged from the bail hearing of the 16-year-old
from Hudson, Que., accused of supplying Ms. Reilly's daughter Stevie
with the drug Ecstasy, which caused her death on Feb. 6. The
16-year-old accused learned yesterday he now faces 12 charges,
including three sexual offences related to Stevie.
The victim's mother emerged from the hearing with a message to other
parents. "Talk to your kids more," Ms. Reilly said. She said she could
never have associated her daughter with the things she heard in court.
Sergeant Eric Roy, an investigator with Quebec provincial police, told
Youth Court Judge Jean Gravel that initially investigators were only
told Stevie and a 14-year-old friend went over to the 16-year-old's
home to purchase and consume the drug there. Stevie grew sick quickly
after taking the equivalent of one pill. Hours later she went into
cardiac arrest and died the next day.
During the investigation, Sgt. Roy said, police learned Stevie and her
friend had had sex before with the 16-year-old. The 16-year-old's
mother testified that she was willing to take him into her custody for
"24 hours a day." But Judge Gravel ruled the teen will remain in custody.
