TRAFFICKER FINED FOR NOT REPORTING INCOME
A Kemptville man has been found guilty of tax evasion and fined
$42,000 for not reporting the proceeds of an illegal drug trafficking
business. Robert Brophy, a convicted drug trafficker, pleaded guilty
to evading $28,000 in federal income taxes during the 2003 and 2004
taxation years. A Canada Revenue Agency investigation revealed that
Mr. Brophy earned at least $153,187 from an illegal drug trafficking
business during those years. The fine imposed represented 150 per cent
of the tax evaded. The money was to be paid immediately.
