MAN HELD FOR TRYING TO STEAL POT, SHOOTING INTO ALLEY

SAN DIEGO - A 23-year-old man was arrested for trying to steal
marijuana from a holistic center and for attempted murder after he
shot into an alley, officials said Saturday.

Charles Kenneth Foster's alleged accomplice was still at large, SDPD
Sgt. Rich Nemetz said. The incident happened around 7 p.m. Friday at
the Green Room Holistic Center in the 3000 block of University Avenue
in North Park, Nemetz said.

Foster and his accomplice allegedly held the employees at gunpoint and
demanded marijuana, Nemetz said. But they were not given any drugs and
gave up, firing several shots into the Green Center alley before
driving off in a gray, primer-colored 1987 GMC SUV, Nemetz said.

Police later found the SUV and tracked it down to its owner and the
5000 block of Trojan Avenue, Nemetz said. Foster was found hiding near
Trojan Avenue and 53rd Street, the sergeant said.

Police did not say whether Foster owned the SUV or lived at the Trojan
Avenue address.

Foster was booked into the Central Jail on suspicion of robbery and
attempted murder. He remained in custody on a California Youth
Authority parole hold, pending arraignment Wednesday in San Diego.
