Share Alcohol And Drug Program Is Hosting An Education Series On
Substance Abuse.
The program is open to everyone in the community and has important
information for those who have an alcohol or drug problem or for
those concerned about their use. It will help those people affected
by others' use to understand addicts and addictive behaviour.
There is no cost for this group. Topics will vary from week to week
as outlined below. The format consists of a video, a brief
presentation, and open discussion.
The program runs Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the second floor
at Share, 2615 Clarke St., Port Moody. For more information, call 604-936-3900.
Topics are:
* March 29 -- Use, abuse, dependency -- how people become addicted. *
April 5 -- Medical aspects and effects of alcohol and drug misuse.
What happens to the body and mind under the influence. * April 12 --
Relapse prevention -- discussion on the psychological, emotional and
physical aspects of relapsing and a beginning look at what can be
done. * April 19 -- Cocaine and crystal meth -- the struggle to
recover, the long term recovery from our ever growing problem. *
April 26 -- Stage 2 Recovery or learning how to love and enjoy life
clean and sober. * May 3 -- Stress -- learning to cope with life's
little and big problems. * May 10 -- Anger -- understanding your
anger and learning how to manage it more effectively. * May 17 --
Trauma -- How substance misuse often occurs with people who have
experienced childhood sexual or physical abuse. How these experiences
may cause relapses or continued misuse. * May 24 -- Substance
affected/adult children of alcoholics or how others' misuse affects
us. * May 31 -- Drinking driving -- what constitutes unsafe
drinking/drugging and driving.
