IN BRIEF

A divided Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to
issue medical marijuana identification cards to patients and regulate
dispensaries in unincorporated areas.

Supervisors Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, Gloria Molina and Zev
Yaroslavsky supported issuance of the state-mandated ID cards, while
Mike Antonovich and Don Knabe opposed it.

The board also voted 4 to 1, with Antonovich opposing, to ban
dispensaries in residential areas and require that they be at least
1,000 feet from schools, libraries and other institutions.
