SAMPLE SCHOOL DISTRICT CODES

Here's a sample of some school district codes of conduct that apply to
athletes and students participating in extra-curricular/co-curricular
activities as they relate to use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco.

Forest Hills What the code says: Use, sale, consumption or possession
of tobacco, alcohol or illegal controlled substances, which includes
inhalants, look-alikes, and /or other illegal substances, is strictly
prohibited throughout the calendar year. Students hosting a party
where alcohol or other illegal controlled substances are being
unlawfully consumed, shall also be considered in violation.

Who it covers: Athletes, cheerleaders, dance team.

Length of coverage: 24/7/365 days a year

First offense: A student found to be in violation of the athletic code
or student code of conduct (resulting in suspension or expulsion from
school) shall be removed from participation in all activities and
shall be ineligible for participation in activities for one calendar
year. May apply for reinstatement no earlier than two weeks after
initial removal.

Second offense: A student found to be in violation of the athletic
code of conduct or student code of conduct (resulting in suspension or
expulsion from school) a second time during their attendance/enrollment
shall be removed from participation and shall be ineligible for
participation in activities for a minimum of one calendar year. May be
eligible for reinstatement one calendar year after removal.

Loveland What the code says: Buying, selling, transferring, using,
possessing, having the odor of, or being under the influence of any
controlled substance (drugs, narcotics, marijuana, etc.) or inhalants,
or buying,selling, using, possessing or being under the influence of
any counterfeit controlled substance (any substance that is made to
look like a controlled substance, or is represented to be a controlled
substance, or that is believed to be a controlled substance. Buying,
selling, transferring, using, or possessing any drug or alcoholic
paraphernalia to include instruments, objects, papers, pipes,
containers, etc. Buying selling, transferring, using, possessing,
having the odor of, or being under the influence of any alcoholic
beverage or intoxicant of any kind. Buying, selling, transferring,
using, possessing or being under the influence of any drug,
medication, inhalant or other contorlled substance which can be taken
internally where the students involved cannot sho! w a legitimate
health or other reason for the use of such substance. Buying, selling,
transferring, using or possessing any substance containing tobacco,
including but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, a pipe, a clove
cigarette, chewing tobacco, snuff and dip, or using tobacco in any
form.

Who it covers: Athletes and other students participating in
extracurricular/co-curricular activities.

Length of coverage: 24/7/365 days a year

First offense: Denied participation for 40 percent of scheduled
games/contests/events. If violation occurs with less than 40 percent
of scheduled games remaining or if a student is not participating on a
team at that time, the penalty (or remaining percentage) will carry
over to the next sport season that the student participates in, even
possibly into the next academic school year. Must complete assessment
and educational components.

Second offense: Denied participation for one calendar year from the
date of the incident. Must complete assessment and education
components outlined in first offense.

Third offense: A student athlete will be denied participating in
athletics for the rest of his/her high school career.

Princeton What the code says: The use, sale or possession of tobacco
products, alcohol and illegal drugs on or off school grounds during a
season while a member of a Princeton athletic team is strictly
prohibited. If determined to be on school grounds, or at school
sponsored events, the student athlete will be subject to expulsion
from school. If determined to be during the season while off school
grounds not at a school sponsored activity, the observation or
knowledge by and Princeton faculty member, coach, or law enforcement
agency is sufficient evidence to confront the student with impending
disciplinary action. Violations of the policy will lead to denial of
participation and/or removal from the Princeton School District
interscholastic athletic programs.

Who it covers: Athletes and other students participating in
extracurricular/co-curricular activities.

Length of coverage: During the school year, while the player is a
member of the team or student is participating in an activity.

First offense: Minimum 7-day participation suspension. Minimum 10
hours community service.

Second offense: Minimum 14-day participation suspension. Required
substance intervention for tobacco and alcohol/drug offenses.

Third offense: Suspension from participation for one calendar
year.

Sycamore What the code says: During the school year in progress, any
student possessing or using drugs, alcoholic beverages, or tobacco of
any kind which is substantiated by a member of the school staff or a
law enforcement officer, will be immediately denied participation from
extracurricular/co-curricular activity for 10 calendar days or a
period not to exceed two regular season/tournament contests,
performances or club activities. If the offense occurs during
preseason/postseason activities, then the suspension will begin at the
time of the first regularly scheduled contest or at the start of the
next sport season.

Who it covers: Athletes and students participating in
extracurricular/co-curricular activities.

Length of coverage: During the school year.

First offense: Denied participation for 10 calendar days or a period
not to exceed two regular season/tournament contests.

Second offense: Total denial of participation from all
extracurricular/co-curricular activities for the remainder of the
school year.
