YOUTH DRUG SURVEY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Youth Drug Survey, sponsored by Vancouver
Coastal Health, is seeking volunteers for a 45-minute confidential
survey that will gauge drug and alcohol use patterns in young people.

Up to 600 volunteers aged 16 to 24 are being sought, a number that
represents about one per cent of those in that age category in Vancouver.

Participants will be rewarded with $20 gift cards.

"Engaging youth in a positive and non-intrusive way will give us an
accurate look at young people's experiences with, and feelings about,
drugs and alcohol," said Dr. Cameron Duff, lead researcher, VCH Youth
Addiction Services.

He said the survey may be done annually so researchers can follow
trends in drug and alcohol use. "If kids say they haven't used drugs,
we want to know why, and what messages work in that regard."

To book an appointment for an interview, call 604-837-8069. After
completing the process, subjects will be given a gift card to either
Future Shop, London Drugs or Famous Players.
