POT SELLER PLEADS GUILTY
The owner of a Commercial Drive cafe that openly sold marijuana to
people walking in off the street pleaded guilty to two drug charges
in B.C. Supreme Court yesterday.
Carol Ann Gwilt, 39, was facing one count of trafficking in a
controlled substance and one count of possessing the proceeds of crime.
The Da Kine Smoke and Beverage Shop was shut down shortly after the
widely publicized police raid on her establishment on Sept. 17, 2004.
Gwilt had been expected to fight the charges, but after losing her
court battle last month on an unrelated marijuana charge, she appears
to have changed her mind.
A sentencing hearing on all three convictions was scheduled for Sept. 5.
