DRUG-IMPAIRED DRIVING A MENACE ON B.C. ROADS

Anywhere else in Canada, it might not seem necessary to say that
driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana is not
a good thing.

However, the marijuana lobby in this province has become so strong
that all manner of magic is attributed to the weed -- especially by
B.C. teens.

That is why Lower Mainland Mounties felt the need Wednesday to remind
folks that drivers high on pot do indeed pose a safety problem on our
roads.

"We're seeing a disturbing trend," said Cpl. Beth

Blackburn, noting that roadside memorials are popping up all over the
place. "Youth are dying in crashes that are 100-per-cent
preventable."

Impaired-driving charges involving pot and other illegal drugs are far
less common than those for booze.

But that doesn't mean we should treat drug-impaired driving less
seriously, especially in drug-friendly B.C.
