POSSESSION OF DRUGS IS COSTLY

Crime definitely didn't pay for a Regina man who lost a Harley, a BMW
and a house and is out nearly $90,000 in cash after pleading guilty to
drug charges at Regina's Provincial Court on Monday.

Trevor Shaun Deitz pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled
substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the
proceeds of crime.

The charges arose from a series of raids at three houses in the 100
block of Osler Street in May, which turned up more than $50,000 in
cash, cocaine packaging, digital scales with drug residue on them,
bulletproof vests and surveillance equipment.

Police taking part in the search also found just over seven ounces of
cocaine, worth more than $10,500, inside Deitz's BMW.

Deitz pleaded not guilty to the charges days after his arrest in May,
but that plea was expunged and replaced with a guilty plea on Monday.

After listening to a joint submission by Deitz's lawyer and the Crown,
Judge Dennis Fenwick sentenced Deitz to 30 months in jail -- which
becomes a 20-month sentence because of the time Deitz has already
spent on remand.

Deitz also forfeited the two vehicles, $45,000 in cash and a property
at 925 Athol St. He must also pay a fine of more than $42,000.
