DON'T ROMANTICIZE COCAINE

Unless the Target Audience Is a Drug Cartel, a Drink Called Cocaine
Might Not Be a Good Idea.

Tell that to the marketing geniuses behind a high-caffeine drink made
by Redux Beverages of Las Vegas, which markets the product as "The
legal alternative," according to the Associated Press.

And, yes, that would be the legal alternative to cocaine, although
the drink does not contain any drugs.

We are strong supporters of free speech, but glamorizing cocaine is
clearly irresponsible.

As if the name of the drink were not bad enough, it comes in red
cans, with the name spelled out in lines resembling white powder.

The drink is available in only a handful of states, including
California and New York, and 7-Eleven is telling franchises to pull
the product from its shelves.

For better or worse, energy drinks are popular these days, but some
marketing common sense would come in handy.
