DANGERS OF CRACK EXPLORED

The impact of crack cocaine on our community will be the topic of
discussion at a special workshop on Nov. 24.

"In our work, we've certainly found an increasing link between crime
and crack cocaine," said Skip Graham, executive director of St.
Leonard's halfway house.

Although Graham said he doesn't have statistics to show crack use is
on the rise in Windsor, he pointed to continuing street prostitution
and the crack-related shooting of Senior Const. John Atkinson as
examples of the "increasing seriousness" of the problem.

Graham said the event will be attended by representatives of the
Crown attorney's office, Windsor police and the CAW. The keynote
speaker will be a recovering addict.

The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Hospice of
Windsor and Essex County, 6038 Empress St. Graham said the workshop
is already at its limit of 100 attendees. For information, e-mail
