GRANT TO HELP TRAIN POLICE ABOUT DRUG LABS
A $50,195 Ontario grant to Ottawa police will go toward specialized
training, equipment and tools for drug investigators searching out
"clandestine drug laboratories," Chief Vince Bevan says. Ottawa police
were among 10 law enforcement agencies to receive money under the
Civil Remedies Act.
The act allows the attorney general to ask the courts to freeze and
seize the proceeds and instruments of unlawful activity. Assets are
then converted into cash and deposited into a special account and some
of the money is handed out in grants. The announcement was made
yesterday by Ottawa Centre MPP Richard Patten.
