METHAMPHETAMINE UPDATE

Methamphetamine Treatment: Partnerships In Recovery Pilot Program

Methamphetamine is widely acknowledged to be a hard drug to stop
using. Methamphetamine addicts have relapses early in treatment, and
chronic and persistent depression after they stop using the drug.

Effective treatment models include early medical evaluation and
treatment, and an intensive abstinence based program. Butte County
Public Health is pleased to announce the realization of a pilot
program designed to help methamphetamine addicts get clean.

'Partnerships in Recovery' is a collaborative effort between Butte
County Public Health Department and Butte County Behavioral Health.

The program has capacity for twenty-five South County methamphetamine
addicts to be enrolled and receive treatment services from both
agencies over the duration of six months. The partnership began in
July, 2006 and currently has eight people enrolled and participating
in the program.

What can you expect if you make a commitment to get clean and enroll
in the program? After an initial intake interview you will meet with
a Nurse Practitioner and receive a physical exam. A drug and alcohol
counselor will help you develop an action plan to get off drugs, help
you identify what 'triggers' your craving for drugs, and help you
avoid these triggers. The counselor will help identify recovery
groups that work for you so you can develop a long-term plan for
sobriety. The nurse case manager will meet with you every week to
work toward holistic solutions for the health, nutrition, and day to
day problems like housing, transportation, and parenting, that you
may be dealing with.

This year, today, 2007 can be the year you make a fresh and clean
start. Recovery works . . . Treatment works . . . and it is
available. Call 538-7705 to get more information, and we hope you
will take that next step and make an appointment.
