RESIDENTS WEIGH IN ON DRUG PLAN

The majority of Vancouver residents support programs that would
supply prescription drugs to addicts as part of a treatment program,
a new poll says.

The results, released Friday by Justason Market Intelligence, showed
that 61 per cent approve substitute-drug therapy, while 36 per cent
oppose it. Three in four residents rate solving the city's drug
problem as very important, but 71 per cent believe drug addicts will
not respond to standard treatment.

Mayor Sam Sullivan recently announced he's seeking federal approval
to offer substitute drugs as part of the city's Four Pillars drug program.
