SECOND CASE OF ALLEGED DRUG POSSESSION BY FIREFIGHTER
EMERGES

A second case of alleged drug possession involving a Vancouver
firefighter has surfaced.

Seven-year firefighter Andrew David Jeves was one of three men
arrested in August 2005 in a Burnaby RCMP sting aimed at disrupting
the cocaine trade.

Project E-Peat resulted in the seizure of 4.5 kilograms of cocaine,
about 1,700 ecstasy pills, 112 grams of methamphetamine, 39.5 g of
heroin, a .40-calibre Glock handgun, more than $100,00 in cash and
three high-end cars.

Jeves faces four charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking
and a count of possession. His next court appearance is tomorrow.

Fire department spokesman Capt. Rob Jones-Cook confirmed Jeves was
placed on administrative leave without pay following the arrest.

The department didn't make the information public at the time because
the accused is innocent until proven guilty, Jones-Cook said.

There was no attempt to cover up the charges, he said, adding: "Why
would we cover anything up? We've always been up-front."

Still, Jones-Cook conceded, the Jeves case and the arrest of a 24-year
veteran last week in Delta on suspicion of running a marijuana grow-op
out of his basement has set the department back on its heels. "I'm
sure we're going to have a number of people that are extremely upset
with us," he said. "We share in that feeling. We try to live up to a
higher standard."

Delta police raided a home on the 9100-block 112 Street last week.
Officers found 380 pot plants and thousands of dollars' worth of
lights and fans. Police are recommending charges of production and
possession against the homeowner. Property records indicate the home
is owned by Randall Jones.
