SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES MAKE BIG BUST
Bexar County sheriff's officials said they made the largest "ice" bust
in the department's history Wednesday afternoon on the Northeast Side.
"This blew us away," Lt. Darrell Sanders said.
Four pounds of "ice," methamphetamine that is smoked, in Ziploc bags
was discovered at a home on the 5600 Block of Wood Climb Drive. More
than 30 firearms ranging from rifles to an AK-47 were also found. Two
pounds of marijuana also was seized and $80,000 in cash was found.
Three men between 40 and 50 years old were arrested on possession of
firearms and possession of illegal substances counts. Their names
weren't immediately released.
Two of the men lived in the home. The other is from Louisiana and is a
convicted felon, Sanders said. Deputies staking out the home said the
Louisiana man, who likely will face federal charges, was driving
around the cul-de-sac several times when they pulled him over.
The home had been under investigation for "several
weeks."
Sanders said ice is the "new crack," has increased in popularity over
the last two years and predominately comes from Mexico. A gram of ice
has a street value of $100, he said. There are 454 grams in a pound.
