DRUG DEATHS HIGHEST IN DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE
VANCOUVER - A report by the Canadian Community Epidemiology Network on
Drug Use has damning evidence on the number of drug-induced deaths for
residents of Vancouver's impoverished Downtown Eastside.
While illicit drug deaths went down in Vancouver and the rest of B.C.
in 2006, the report says people living in the Downtown Eastside have
seven times the provincial rate of drug-induced deaths.
Residents of the Downtown Eastside also have a 33 per cent higher
death rate than the rest of Vancouver, according to the study.
