BECK TO RESIGN FROM ZANESVILLE POLICE

ZANESVILLE - The second Zanesville police officer who is the target
of a federal investigation will be resigning from the department,
according to the police chief.

Sean Beck, 28, was arrested by FBI agents and charged with one count
of extortion and one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Beck
was immediately transported to the Franklin County Jail and waived
both a preliminary hearing and a bond hearing this past week.

According to Chief Eric Lambes, Beck has notified the department of
his intention to resign in the next few days.

Beck's Columbus defense attorney, J. Scott Weisman, could not be
reached for comment.

Zanesville City Law Director Scott Hillis said Beck's father called
him this week and said Beck would be submitting a resignation Monday.

"Resignation or termination - it doesn't really matter either way,"
Lambes said. "He's simplified the procedure and now the city doesn't
have to go through so many formal steps to fire him."

Hillis had said earlier this week that if Beck did not resign by next
week, he would be terminated.

Resigning Thursday morning was Trevor Fusner, who was arrested along
with Beck and charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute
cocaine. Genesis HealthCare Systems Police officer Chad Mills was
also arrested and charged with the conspiracy count.

Fusner and Mills have been released on their own recognizance and
ordered to be placed under house arrest and have to wear electronic
monitoring devices until their cases are resolved.

Fusner was released Friday from the Franklin County Jail while Mills
was released Wednesday.

Both men have also been ordered to not have any contact with
employees at Genesis Hospital, the Zanesville City Police Department,
the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office, any known felons or drug dealers.

Both had weapons removed from the homes, are subject to have random
drug and alcohol testing and could be further ordered to counseling
sessions, court records show.

According to FBI documents, Beck met with a witness on Aug. 22, at
the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Zanesville to get $1,300 as partial
payment for making drug indictments "disappear."

Beck then began a plan in which Fusner and Mills would help him steal
a kilo of cocaine from a dealer, who was expected to deliver the
drugs to the cemetery.

The plan was to let the dealer go after getting the drugs.

No court dates have yet been scheduled for the three, court records show.
