HARM AND HARM REDUCTION

Margaret Wente (They're Sick Of Watching People Die - July 12) does
not mention the term "the Four Pillars," by which the widely
supported endeavour in the Downtown Eastside is known. Her columns
tell non-Vancouver readers that harm reduction is the only endeavour
there. The other three pillars are treatment, prevention and enforcement.

The many, many Vancouver residents who have worked on various aspects
of the Four Pillars deserve better than Ms. Wente's polemic against
handing out free (and clean) needles.
