LEGALIZATION IS NOT THE ANSWER

Re: David Lane's Tuesday letter.

Anyone who has spent real time with an addict would never advocate the
legalization of street drugs. Cocaine, meth and other illicit drugs
can be closely compared to morphine, a legal narcotic when issued with
a prescription. We see just as much crime associated with morphine
addicts as we do with other hard drugs. Whether a substance is legal
or not, addicts will do whatever is necessary to obtain it. Just look
at the myriad problems associated with alcohol which is legal but
extremely harmful to those who are addicted. Legalization is not the
answer to these problems.
