SEN. SPECTER IS NO ADVOCATE FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA

Recently Philadelphia news media reported that Sen. Arlen Specter
said that he would "absolutely" use medical marijuana to mitigate the
effects of his cancer and treatments if Pennsylvania allowed it and
if his doctor issued a prescription.

That's ironic, since Specter has, for decades as a prosecutor and
legislator, discouraged any such state regulation. And, he has done
nothing to stop the Drug Enforcement Administration in its relentless
prosecution of "medical pot" advocates, suppliers and patients in
California, which has tried to regulate it for a dozen years.

The efficacy of marijuana in cancer treatment has been scientifically
proven since 1974 when the Medical College of Virginia, at the behest
of the federal government, documented the research.

The results of another study in the 1990s have been suppressed by the
federal government during Specter's oversight. That study by the U.S.
National Toxicology Program concluded that mice and rats administered
high doses of THC had greater protection against malignant tumors
than untreated controls.

Arlen Specter is blowing smoke in our faces if he wants us to believe
he has a sensitivity to this issue.
